This is gonna sound a little cynical but if you START at the Minnesota / Wisconsin line on I-90 or I-94 SOBER you WILL be BLITZED by Milwaukee.
THAT is just how friendly - like the badger state folks are.
This statistic was backed up by my brother who resided in West Allis, Wisconsin - a Milwaukee suburb and an Ok hitchiking exit (there is a BETTER one out 1 exit PAST the shopping mall west on I-94) while training for the olympic speed skating team - a real coup when you consider he's from a desert state...he didn't quite make the cut...
Cheap bars in: MADISON - madcity key hitchiking exit "Sun Prairie".
Illegal to walk on hiway in Wisconsin too, but you SHOULD get aride fast esp. in SUMMER when the Harley's are out (manufactured in MILWAUKEE of course...).
Internet access available at Milwaukee main public library, not a GREAT neighborhood, but not TOO unsafe...(the bus to the Milwaukee county zoo / and the next county west goes right by there...)
MAJOR CONCERT VENUES: Modjeska Theatre is within 30 minute busride of the main public library.
Milwaukee bus drivers are pretty cool, alot of times if you're broke and it's cold out they'll let you ride - esp if you have a backpack on & are unfamiliar w/the area...
ALPINE VALLEY: I have NEVER BEEN THERE. HOW *NOT* TO GET THERE on TIME FOR THE SHOW: take a metra train from Chicago to Kenosha.
How to GET there: take an EAST BOUND METRA TRAIN to like Aurora, hitch along til you see I-43 then go most of the way to Milwaukee - it's on the left hand side according to infoseek's map...
I have met people that have been guests at the federal prison in APPLETON, and I heard Green Bay has a pretty good football team...
(ahh peter: put the super-soaker away! I was JOKING.) Green Bay HAS A WORLD CHAMPION FOOTBALL TEAM. THEY PLAY IN A PLACE CALLED "LAMBEAU FIELD" it's "HOLY SOIL".
And I liked how the team parade was in citibuses instead of luxury coaches...
I *REALLY* wish I had more to tell.
But I will say this, you haven't lived til you've been on a harley in Wisconsin in the springtime...
coolness: 100-10 for greyhound racing - sorry folks...
avg crossing times: Milwaukee to: Madison: 4-6 hrs
To Chicago: 2-4 hrs (and there is a cool A&W just past the state line on the Kenosha thataway exit...
Oh yeah, rob drinks "Old Style" beer when he watches the Cubbies play (& the Brewers, too) down in AZ. Old Style beer, fully krausened, Lacrosse, Wisconsin...
The best Wisconsin paper is the Journal Sentinel in Milwaukee.
And actual true fact: on Halloween nite 1997, the Wisconsin lottery's 'daily 3' game drew the numbers 6.6.6. (BRRRRR...)
And oh yeah, there are *MANY* cheap bars in Madison, chief among them being *BUCK's Tavern* downtown.

Write to Legendary Rob.
