In addition to being the land of cosmic cubscout dreams, Montana also has some pretty cool things going for it.
Let's face it, if solitude is your bag, Montana is the place to get it - just ask Ted Kacynski.

Now there isn't much in the way of gainful employment there but a lot of people don't seem to mind and accept a relatively downscale lifestyle - you'll probably get your ear bent a time or ten by people whose granddaddy settled this land, griping about Californicators and their chi-chi boutiques and punk-ass kids.
But the Californians DO bring MONEY so they're not THAT unwelcome...

Practically every convenience store in the state sells buckets o'dr.pepper for like 63 cents...
My personal favorite chain is "Town Pump".

Also check this out: Montana has legal video poker in a lot of stores - if you win, the machine generates a credit chit that you cash in @ the counter.
(the machines are a helluva lot tighter than Vegas tho...but for an impoverished hiker down to his last quarter and REALLY thirsty, it can't hurt ya know...

Yes you can walk on the hiway in Montana according to the state trooper and a coupla asst. police chiefs I've talked to & check this out: the DILLON asst. chief bought me a cheseburger and a dr.pepper!

avg crossing times: e-w on I-90 16-24hrs - THE PLACE IS HUGE! (that's w/continual rides! :)
n-s I-15 Idaho to Alberta: 8-12 hrs
