MISSISSIPI

State motto: 'did I spell that right?'

This one won't take too long I think.
Even though it's kinda redneck, Mississipi is a tad friendlier than most southeastern states but it has its own li'l quirks.

LIKE: I ordered an ice tea at the Waffle House on the Louisiana side of the river and I got an ICE tea.
When I ordered an ice tea at the Waffle House in Vicksburg I got a glass full of brown liquid sugar and some ICE! "a glucose & tannin cocktail".
I ask why RUIN a perfectly good glass of ice tea like that?

Other than that the place isn't too bad - a li'l humid but not too bad.
There aren't any signs prohibiting walking on the interstate and the cops by and large leave you alone...

COOL STUFF: free coca-cola at stateline rest areas (Mississipi had the first coca-cola bottler and they're darn-tootin proud of it, doncha know...
You probably will see some pretty glaring hovels in the rural areas tho...

GOOD ADVICE DEPT: if you get dropped off in or around Jackson, use I-20 instead of the traffic loop, you'll get there faster even if you're going up to Memphis or down to New Orleans on I-55.
#2: NOT all off ramps in Mississipi have nearby (less than 3 miles) on-ramps
ASK THE DRIVER IF HIS/HER TOWN HAS AN ONRAMP!
A town called NEWTON used to have this fatal flaw but now they don't and it's a pretty good exit...

*y'know I forgot to mention it back in that chapter, but thats *ANOTHER* reason I hate Florida.

Oh yeah: 1/2 drunk drivers are a high probability - they'll probly offer you a beer or two: REMEMBER: THE MORE BEER *YOU* DRINK THE LESS BEER *THEY* DRINK - making life easier for all concerned: you, them, and the cops...

A little town on the Alabama border called MERIDIAN and how to deal w/it and why:
The 20/59 jct is about 2 miles from the nearest developed exit - while I don't always recommend this, AT THIS particular spot I recommend getting a a qt of gatorade or dr.pepper and going out and following the interstate in the direction you wish to go so drivers KNOW which way you're headed: (east or south).

I generally recommend the last developed surface exit out of town in the direction of travel but this junction is a special case, don't go past it 'til you catch a ride.
The next town is a ways.
MERIDIAN ALSO HAS LOTSA CHEAP HOTELS & FAST FOOD RESTAURANTS, (a Wal-mart on the Alabama side (of course)).
And a Sack & Save (SMACK YOUR SLAVE) grocery store that claims by not hiring sackboys they have lower prices than say Piggly Wiggly - yeah right...cheapskates.

AVG crossing times:
I sweartagod if you start on any interstate in Mississipi before noon you can be in DallasTX, Atlanta GA, Memphis TN or New Orleans by sunset 9 out of 10 times...
