State motto: "Waddya mean you don't like corn...?"

I can't find enough GOOD things to say about Iowa and only one bad thing: the 'Atlantic' area has too many skeeters.

1. You can walk on the hiway - it's legal there.
2. Beer and soda can deposit state - so while yer walkin'...
3. People are really friendly.
4. The town of ADAIR sells PRIVATE HOT showers for $1.00 to ALL travelers at the ADAIR CITY PARK - careful of the faucet tho it's tricky and falls off sometimes...(Adair is on I-80 west of Des Moines - look for the yellow smiley-face water tower).

A little town called 'Story City' has the cheapest apt rents in the known universe - its' NORTH of Des Moine on I-35 about 35 miles and it's pretty EZ to hitch in and out of Ames (Hilton Coliseum town where Iowa has rock concerts, besides the state fair in Des Moines).
Stick to plain I-80 instead of the loop, you'll do fine.

The bus goes out to a suburb called "Altoona" on the east side of town but you can generally hitch just as fast.
Altoona has:
1. Prairie Meadows racetrack - ka-ching.
2. Bosselman's truck stop - 5 dollar showers and a working post office inside...
3. Adventureland amusement park.
It's also a most excellent on - ramp...
You can usually get to NEWTON (home of 'the lonely ol' Maytag repairman'...(r.i.p.)

There is a really good chinese buffet inside the Ramada Inn on that exit - it's also a Greyhound station if you get *really* desperate. The bus runs thru Newton twice a day, but I still say you'll catch a ride before you see the bus.

EXPENSIVE BUT WORTH IT: BUFFET AT PILOT TRUCK STOP IN DESMOINES AND THEY SERVE *REAL* DR. pepper.

There are really cheap (3 bucks) showers available on I-35 north at the little truck-stop that looks like a town (you'll know when you see it). Coolness 1000o and change...

Did I mention the folks who gave me a 100 dollar reward for finding the contents of their stolen credit cards in Urbandale?
I couldn't get a ride and I spent the nite and when I went up the ramp there was their stuff *where I was supposed to be when I was to besupposed to be there* - lr.
By the way thanx folks! It really made the going easier.
