Basically, the directions you need are: YELLOWKNIFE, N.W.T. - head to Peace River on Hwy 2 out of north Edmonton.
Yukon/Alaska: take Yellowhead Hiway (16) Hwy 43 and head for GRANDE PRAIRIE (you can go thru Slave Athabasca / Slave Lake, but take the ride going furthest. Try to get thru Edmonton tho)...
If you're on Hwy 2 between Calgary (pronounced 'cal GARY' by Canucks - NOT 'cal-guh-rie' like yankees.
Also Canadians don't talk as loud and VERY RARELY DRINK 44oz sodas.
A 44 oz soda lasts an American about an hour.
It lasts a canadian about 4hrs...
Also Canadians generally eat smaller portions of food and a cup of coffe is just 'a coffee'.
Canucks smoke more too - if you feel compelled to play this ruse out 'export a' is the least icky...
A TENT is handy in Alberta as there aren't too many highway overpasses in emergencies and it rains a LOT there...

Expect a higher redneck factor than USA - and remember in the great white north: the longer the hair = the redder the neck.
It's ill-advised to have a complexion darker than everybody else at all points north of Edmonton...
Natives (and people perceived to be them) get beaten / robbed and/or killed with disturbing regularity in that area...
Points south are relatively friendly tho...

Edmonton to NW Territories: 1-2 days, but the sun never sets (helpful) and lotsa skeeters in summer (not so helpful).
Calgary to Edmonton: 4-6 hrs
Coutts Alb / Sweetgrass to Whitehorse, Yukon via Ethbridge / Calgary / Edmonton & Grande Prairie: 3 days...
